Good morning. Did you sleep well last night?
Yes, momma. I dreamed all night of opening the gifts you made for me.
As I hugged her, I knew, she pleasantly slept dreaming with anticipation of the gifts under the tree with her name on them.
Over the last few weeks, I have pondered myself, do I, with anticipation, look forward to unwrapping the gift of Jesus in my life this Christmas. As I have, with intention, sought to do so, there has been a deeper desire to know him more intimately than I ever have before. His goodness. His presence. His mercy. His grace. Him.
My deepest desire has been to remove the limitations of my human understanding of who he is and truly explore an unfiltered version of him. There must be a willingness to step into faith believing the supernatural of who Jesus is before I can hope to comprehend even just a surface understanding of Jesus Christ.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 KJV
As I step into a place of faith that says, My God you can do all things and your thoughts are higher than mine, show me you. Open my mind to comprehend the majesty of who you are as you open my heart to receive you, let me see you.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (KJV) “This Scripture has come true today before your very eyes!” (NLT)
Luke 4:18-19;21
“They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I cam not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Luke 4:32
“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Matthew 1:23
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.”
John 1:1;14
Friend, we live in a fallen world on a temporary journey until we reach our eternal destination. In this life, we will experience hurt, tragedy, and grief. There are times of exceeding joy and immense sorrow. Life on this earth is hard even on the good days. Significant events of great loss shadow our lives for the remainder of our earthly days as we learn to navigate the world around us with a numbed sense of existence at times. I have found the grieving heart to be a continuous dull ache in the hollow cavity of my chest as I outwardly continue to exist. Yet, when the very act of breathing becomes difficult, I choose, to remember that God is with me. He is my source of strength. He is my source of joy. He is my comfort.
The beauty of Christmas, is that we, were given the gift of Jesus. God himself, the Creator of all creation, robed himself in flesh becoming man, dwelling among us, living a blameless life, experiencing the human struggle of the world, to die on the cross of Calvary in our place, for our sin, as he conquered death, hell, and the grave, resurrecting to ascend into heaven, sending back the breath of His Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost to as many as would believe for all generations, thus becoming God with us.
It is hard for me to imagine the fullness of who Jesus Christ is when I peer through the clouded lens of my humanity. Oh, but the beauty of God, is that he knows no limitations of humanity as he is the very Creator of all creation who graciously breathed his breath of life into man, became man so we could be sons and daughters inheriting his kingdom that knows no end, and then he breathed the breath of his Spirit into man again to equip us with the power of the living God to walk in this broken fallen world, victorious.
He is Wonderful. More wonderful than we can comprehend.
He is Counsellor. His wisdom knows no end and is the answer to every problem I face.
He is mighty God. The one who has already won and with him, who can be against me.
He is everlasting Father. My protector, my provision, my daddy who knows nothing but perfect love.
He is Prince of Peace. The voice the wind and waves obey, the Name above all names, the one the demons flee from, the peace in spite of my storm.
He came to heal the sick and call the sinner to repentance. He is the very reason death is a lie.
He is here for the broken hearted, the captive, the blind, the bruised and battered. He is here for me.
When my life is a mess, my heart is broken and torn, my spirit is crushed, and my whole world aches; this is what he came for.
The beauty of the Christmas story, is that your God, the one who knit you together in your mother’s womb, calling you by name with precious thoughts of you that outnumber the grains of sand, knew every single moment and thought of your life before a single day had passed, brought himself to you in a manger to a virgin mother as your Savior.
Unwrap the gift of Jesus this Christmas.
In love, Bobbie
