Let us not forget
Today I had a message ready. Instead of writing it I waited. Waited to get my heart right. Waited to share until I worked through the frustrations and stress of life. The ones that weighed heavy on my heart putting my words together for you instead of his.
My message albeit modified was confirmed twice today. So I’ll share.
Let us not forget.
In the middle of the uncertainty around us there are many feelings we experience in a day, a week, or even in a hour. Those feelings are different for each of us. A lot has to do with the suitcase of life we carry with us. The tools in our suitcase either equip us to stand solid, rock to and fro with the waves, or become overwhelmed with fear, panic, anxiety. Of course, throughout one day we can experience the whole myriad of emotions.
Other behaviors that rise up within us are pride, arrogance, defensiveness, and frustrations. Denial the very storm even exists is another way we “deal with” our feelings. Others around us easily become frustrated because they see the storm, feel the storm, and know the storm is here. They can’t understand how or why we wouldn’t be looking through the same lens. Tomorrow we may be in a place to acknowledge and deal. But today we aren’t.
Today I started out with a let us not forget message on my heart. It was a laundry list of things I’ve seen others forget in these difficult times and I’ve even forgotten. Things that frustrate me. Weigh heavy. Things that I feel concern for us to forget.
As the day has gone on I’ve asked God to guide me in what would he have me and others not forget. Of all the important information we are filtering, what is it. What is it that he has for us. What is most important for you and me as we navigate this journey.
Here are a few key truths. In all this uncertainty around us there are truths we can stand firm on.
- His word is a light unto my feet and lamp unto my path (Psalms 119:105). Our path may be straight and smooth. Curvy and long. You know a switchback curve mile long road that takes a long time to get through and you can’t see what’s around the corner as you enter each curve. Steep and rocky. Or a downhill mudslide. Whatever the path. His word is what lights it. When the path of life I’m on is covered in darkness with strange noises around me that leave me to wonder where I’m going and if it’s safe. The only beacon of light is the word of God. It brings me truth. Truth to hold onto. Until I reach the other side. Truth to light up my life for not only me but for the benefit of others on the path with me. A light of hope, clarity, and vision. Now is the time more than ever to dig deeper into his word.
- Fear not for I am with you – Isaiah 41:10. He is with me. This may be a time of uncertainty and worry but God remains with me. His word tells me he will never leave me or forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). His love never fails me. In Romans 8:38 he reminds me that nothing can separate me from his love. The love that covers me. Makes me whole. The same love he so deeply displayed as he hung blameless on the cross dying for my sins. That same love is what I hold onto because my God doesn’t leave. He was with me yesterday, he’s here today, and he’s already been in my tomorrow. I will not fear. I will trust. I will praise. I will stand on the faithfulness of God.
- I know who my God is. He is wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, and prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6). He is the alpha and omega, beginning and the end. He is the I Am (Exodus 3:14). For every moment of my life. He is everything I need. I don’t just know about him. I haven’t heard rumors of him. Instead, I KNOW him. I stand with confidence because I know him. He’s more than a story. He’s my story. His name is the name above all names. Therefore his praise will continually be on my lips. Because when all else in life fails. He stands true. He is MY wonder, MY counselor, MY mighty God, MY everlasting father, and MY prince of peace.
- And last but certainly not least…let us always remember. He is worthy of our praise. He is worthy of my praise. Every day. Every moment. No matter what I face. Good times. Hard times. All times. Even the times when I just don’t know. ALWAYS! If you aren’t sure if he’s always worthy, I would encourage you to spend time reading the book of Psalms. Let everything that has breath praise he the Lord Psalms 150:6.
Let us not forget who we serve. Let us not forget where our strength comes from. Let us not forget whose child we are. Let us not forget who is in control. Let us not forget the mighty God we serve.
Let us not forget.
Much love. Bobbie
