Evil dances in the streets before our very eyes. Broad daylight. Proudly. Openly. Without reproach. Still yet, people refuse to see it. Satanic religions disguised as social movements. Conformity in the name of unity. Silencing truth in the name of harmony. Intimidation in the name of tolerance.
Jezebel is sought after, praised, celebrated, and followed by the masses. Immorality called moral. Self indulgence called ambition. Idolatry called success. Evil called good and good called evil. Unholy declared holy.
The worst I’ve seen and heard have been from the mouths of “Christians” themselves. Watered down, washed up, twisted, out of context versions of the gospel no longer of substance never mind any resemblance of truth. I’ve even seen and read Christians claim that Jesus isn’t enough for the problems of the world today. As though the root of all evil is not sin.
One can only imagine how the sin, immorality, and wickedness of the world within which we live has cried out loudly grieving the very heart of Almighty God.
Sodom & Gomorrah
Deuteronomy 32 tells us how Israel became a senseless nation of foolish people provoking the anger of God. Described as a twisted generation, children without integrity. Yet, the Rock of their foundation is good and faithful. He will cleanse their land and their people. The rock of their enemies is a much different story. Their enemies are described like vines from Sodom and vineyards of Gomorrah. Poison, bitter, venom, deadly, and detestable. The rock of the world today, my friend, is a false god with no power to heal, cleanse, provide refuge, only leading to death and destruction.
“Their vine grows from the vine of Sodom, from the vineyards of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poison, and their clusters are bitter. Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras.”
Deuteronomy 32:32-33 NLT
Genesis 18 & 19 tells us of the journey God took to evaluate the devastation of detestable sins in Sodom & Gomorrah. He said their sins were so great and grievous judgment was coming. The Bible tells us the sin of Sodom & Gomorrah was a stench before the Lord. As the angels entered the city and stayed in Lot’s house men from the city sought them out for their own sexual pleasure threatening Lot for not turning them over to them. Their desire was to immorally engage in forced sexual assault to feed their own fleshly sinful desires as an abomination.
This world in which we live seeks to serve only the pleasure of themselves serving all other gods except the one true God. Seeking common ground compromises truth as the only acceptable version of the gospel is one that tolerates, promotes, accepts, and makes excuse for the sins that God calls detestable, venomous, poison, bitter, and deadly.
Be Abraham
On the way to evaluate the detestable sins of Sodom & Gomorrah, the Lord stopped to spend time with Abraham. He enjoyed a meal with Abraham. Sat under the shade of a tree in communication with Abraham. Gave forth a promise of blessing to Abraham. Called Abraham his chosen one. The one he knew would render his children in the ways of God teaching them truth. Committing to fulfill every promise faithfully to Abraham and his generations to come for as many as would come. The profoundness of Almighty God stopping to pour into and invest blessing with Abraham on his way to pass judgment to the wicked is more than I can find adequate words to describe for you.
The Lord is coming. He is on his way to pass judgment for the detestable sins of this land. Be the “Abraham” he stops to commune with, share a meal with, pour blessing over, and call his chosen one.
To be Abraham we must separate ourselves from the detestable sins of the land. Abraham lived outside of the city. Let’s not get lost in the surface meaning of the geographic location of Abraham’s dwelling. Let us open our eyes to see beyond the surface. Abraham separated himself from the city and their sins. He was declared righteous by God. Called a friend of God. Our Holy God does not intertwine himself in a dwelling place that is unholy.
I can imagine that Abraham did not celebrate the ways of Sodom & Gomorrah. He did not make excuse in his time with God, pleading on behalf of the righteous, for the wicked. He did not ask God to not be just and right in his deliverance of judgment. He asked God to spare the righteous. To make way for the people who are living among wicked yet remaining in truth.
Our lives must be separate from the unholy, wicked, evil, immoral, sinful ways of this world for us to have communion with God himself. The beauty of this time is that God himself is sitting in the mercy seat. He is on his way to judgment day, but for as long as he lets the earth tarry, he mercifully, graciously, is giving another opportunity for us to be Abraham. Separating ourselves from the world living IN Christ preserving our bodies as a living sacrifice for the holy temple of Almighty God to dwell within.
Separate yourself from the filthy things of the world. Then God will walk among you and you will be his people. His chosen people.
“And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. ””
