As Christmas approaches, I’ll post this more than once because frankly, it’s worthy of being said more than once.
I wrote in my book, For Such A Time As This, available at http://bobbiejomurphy.com, a chapter focused on the life of Mary, Mother of Jesus.
This is a small subsection of what I wrote…
“Her story is one of inspiration for women across all generations including ours. Of course, there is the obvious, she gave birth to the Savior of the world. She watched him take his first breath robed in flesh as she swaddled him to lay in the manger. (Luke 2:7) She laid in her face at the foot of the cross as she watched him suffer beyond what she likely could have ever imagined possible until he took his last breath robes in flesh. (John 19:25-27)
I wonder, at times, what it must have felt like to then be in the upper room as he breathed his breath across the 120 gifting His Holy Spirit as she spoke in unknown tongues. (Acts 1:14)”
In this season, as we celebrate, albeit at a time that likely isn’t “the day” of the birth of Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, let us remember the profound significance of the fulfillment of the prophecy and its direct impact on you and I. Don’t you dare let some half-hearted confused individual guilt you for celebration of the Creator of all creation that came into this broken world as a vulnerable babe robed in flesh to an otherwise unremarkable young adolescent girl who lived a life with a heart captivated by God. He stretched those hands across the cross with nails in them for you as he wore a crown of thorns he didn’t earn. He then breathed his breath into an upper room gifting you and I with the comforter he promised because he knew that we could not endure this race without him.
As you honor him with your body, His Temple, hold fast to your reverence of Him even as the world cannot see its value. Of course they can’t. They don’t even know him. You do. Be thankful. Be humble. Be grateful. Live in honor of him.
This season, live your life in honor of the reason for this season, Jesus Christ. It is your reasonable service. Love him. Love yourself. Love others.
As you gather with your friends and family, remember, in all you do, glorify God.
Live your life with the heart of Mary, one that is captivated by God, so much so, that when he calls, your without hesitation answer is, let thy will be done as your humble servant.
My God, I thank you in this season, that you took your hands and put them into the dust of the earth to form Adam knowing that you were going to become a babe who reached with those hands for his Mother, a man who would use those hands to heal, a man who would stretch those hands across Calvary to be our Savior, and the same God that breathed his breath over the upper room to pour out your Spirit because you knew when you formed Adam you would knit me together and I needed a Savior. You are a good good Father. Better than I deserve.
