Christmas time can be a time filled with a myriad

Christmas time can be a time filled with a myriad of emotions. Stress and anxiety to name a couple.

Especially as we work to meet expectations of the things our culture defines as success at Christmas.

Gifts. Plenty of them. Everything you want AND then some.

Food. A big meal. Ham, steak, turkey, and all the sides.

Family. Flawless, perfect, everyone present. No drama. Only smiles.

Lights. Trees. Ornaments. Themed trees. Decorated yard. Real wreath, definitely not fake.

The list goes on and on…

It’s the highlight reel of everyone’s social media.

I want to encourage each of you, today, who are counting down the days to Christmas, wishing they would come a little slower. The gifts are few. The tree is Charlie Brown, at best. Family is broken. Lights are minimal. The yard is plain. And the sentiment is blah on a good day. Let’s define Christmas differently.

Christmas is a perfect opportunity to recognize the love Jesus Christ has FOR you. The world, yes. The lost, yes. The saved, yes. Even if all those people weren’t here, his love is FOR YOU. If you were the only human, he would have left heaven to come to earth as your sacrifice to offer an opportunity for reconciliation. His desire is that none should perish. He leaves the 99 to seek for the 1. You, my friend, are the 1.

Christmas, is so much more than every cultural definition of tradition and holiday.

Let it be that for you.

In the moment of suffering, it’s hard to imagine

In the moment of suffering, it’s hard to imagine the purpose of the pain.

Once you reach the other side and cross over into healing, you find the purpose.

As you stand before someone overwhelmed by the pain you once endured, you see it all so clearly. There is purpose from the pain.

A testimony more powerful than mere words. A witness of the past turned into a future. What seemed a lost cause now has become a new victory. The testimony of resilience, healing, courage, and grit.

As you share your testimony to uplift the person, reflection is humbling and inspiring. You’ll see, the perfect hand of God was always on you. Yea though I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, thy rod and they staff comfort me. (Psalm 23) The words of the psalmist become more real than ever before.

In that moment, you find the purpose for the pain with a grateful heart. God is good. He knew. He knew all along that your witness of his goodness would reach the hurting in ways only a healed and whole person could.

Here’s the catch, if you never lean into him enough to heal, you’ll miss the purpose in the pain and have suffered for naught.

Is it hard? Yes.

Is it worth it? Yes!!

Let Jesus heal you today. ❤️

I’ve been the recipient of mercy and grace when

I’ve been the recipient of mercy and grace when I braced myself for less.

I’ve been the recipient of constructive feedback when I was certain I would feel the sting of criticism.

I’ve been the recipient of love when I felt unworthy.

I’ve been the recipient of praise when I had doubt that overshadowed my confidence.

I’ve been the recipient of faithfulness when I felt my heart wander although I desired it to stay.

I’ve been the recipient of goodness when I had none to give.

I’ve been the recipient of kindness when given the opportunity to not be.

I’ve been blessed and highly favored as I walked in the shadow of the lonely valley.

As I reflect on my life and all there is to be thankful for, I know this one thing, the faithfulness of God has been a constant in my life even as I have been unfaithful.

My deep prayer for each of you, this Thanksgiving, it that you would see his faithfulness that has spanned across the years of your life.

The struggles of this world are real. We have seasons of great joy and seasons of deep pain. Through it all, we have a faithful God who has proven generation after generation that he can be trusted. He is sovereign, kind, loving, merciful, gracious, and good even as we neglect him and grieve his heart.

He is the good, good Father.

She wants a dog so bad.

Today she asked, what if I go to the porch for packages because Dad sends me and suddenly there is a puppy. Then what?

I said, Audrey, that is not going to happen.

She said, no, not that we ordered one but there is one who injured their paw and needs tended to. I mean I would be obligated to bring it in the house to care for it then.

I said, sissy, I’m sorry.

She said, well, I could get a kitten. I mean they at least use a box to potty in. That’s got to be better than our yard.
